Head to California this April to be part of the one and only Coachella

Since 1999 the music scene can thank the work of two men for showing the world that the US knows good music and how to host it – in the stunning Colorado desert on polo fields where the Empire Polo Club ponies usually do the prancing.

Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen launched just before the millennium with headlining acts that all still resonate today and maintain global fan bases, with Beck, The Chemical Brothers, Tool, Morrissey, and Rage Against the Machine marking the beginning of something rather special.

Now in its 18th year, Coachella has grown year on year, showcasing some of the world’s best music and embracing acts that now span the whole popular music spectrum.

This year sees Lady Gaga follow up on her Super Bowl half-time show to headline, with fans looking to see whether she can capture the audience and critics as she did in Houston back in February.

Tickets for the annual event, which runs from April 14th-16th and 21st-23rd, sold out in hours, but for those who didn’t get in early there are still ways of getting in through a number of sell-on agencies, and the decision of where to stay.

There are numerous options in nearby Palm Springs, from private villa rentals to the most comfortable hotel options. Try Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms villa ̶ with stunning mid-century architecture – and take a dip in the piano shaped swimming pool.

If that doesn’t work, or you just don’t fancy the Rat Pack memorabilia feel, try Avalon Hotel and Bungalows with its ultra-modern style and secluded atmosphere, nestled at the foot of the San Jacinto Mountains and set within four acres of perfectly manicured gardens.

Other great options include the fun and quirky Parker Palm Springs, or the luxurious hideaway that is The Willows, which has played host to Einstein and Clark Gable amongst others. Be warned rooms book up way in advance so some string pulling might be needed.
